1. Youth Services Library Assistant (paraprofessional)

Pay Range $8.50-10, Hourly

The 20-hour work week will include day, evening and weekend hours.

Qualities

-Ability to work patiently and creatively with all ages

-Skill in forming and maintaining excellent working relationships with staff at all levels

-Maintain composure and overcome stress in any situation

-Learn the library’s automated system, as well as self-service technology

-Exercise initiative, be enthusiastic, creative, flexible, energetic, value diversity, and possess a sense of humor

-Interpret and communicate Library services, philosophy, policies, and procedures to patrons in a courteous, friendly, and positive manner using one’s best judgment

-Ability to comprehend and follow written and oral multi-step instructions

-Willingness to pay attention to detail

Requirements:

-Physical ability to stand for 4-5 hours, bend over to reach low materials, and lift more than 20 pounds

-Aptitude to perform extensive alphabetizing beyond the first letter of a word and organization of long decimal codes

-Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university

Under the supervision of the Youth Services Coordinator, the Library Assistant will:

Provide readers’ advisory, reference and directional services to patrons.

Help perform Storytimes and other programs in-house and off-site.

Assist patrons with library accounts, the use of the Library’s public computers, and Library supported software.

Actively participate in trainings, meetings, and team projects.

Assist staff in Reference and Circulation departments as needed.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

2. Librarian – Youth Services Department

Pay Range $10-14, Hourly

The Collingswood Public Library seeks a part-time Youth Services librarian to join our team.  This is a position for a librarian with a sense of humor, strong customer service skills, ability to think out of the “box”, desire to be actively involved with the community, and the ability to serve a multicultural population.

The 15-hour work week will include day, evening and weekend hours.

Candidates must possess knowledge of current youth services standards and practices as well as excellent written and spoken communication skills.  Applicants must also have knowledge of current and emerging trends in library and information technologies as well as strong familiarity with internet and social media applications.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, staffing the Youth Services area, creating innovative programming, providing youth reader’s advisory services, collection development, technology assistance to the public and community outreach services.  Must demonstrate strong team-building skills to work collaboratively and effectively with staff and volunteers.

Qualifications/Requirements:

-Ability to converse courteously in person and provide superb customer service

-Expertise in performing extensive alphabetizing beyond the first letter of a word and organization of long decimal codes

-Aptitude for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and the general public

-Ability to comprehend and follow written and oral multi-step instructions

-Willingness to pay attention to detail

-Physical capacity to stand for 4-5 hours, bend over to reach low materials, and lift more than 20 pounds

-This position requires an ALA accredited MLS/MLIS and the ability to obtain a New Jersey Professional Librarian Certification if one is not currently possessed.  Current MLS/MLIS students with prior public library experience will be considered.
